The viable device was discovered at the city's main sorting office on Great James Street on Thursday afternoon. The device was in a white A4 envelope with an address in a grey stencil. Police warned the public to contact them if they receive a similar package.
Army bomb disposal officers were called to deal with the device which had been placed in a white, A4 envelope with an address written in a grey stencil. The office has now reopened but a separate security alert has begun at a sorting office in County Antrim.
