Police have closed a section of the M25 motorway near the Dartford Tunnel in Kent following a fatal road crash. A man has been killed trying to cross the M25 close to the Dartford Tunnel.
Emergency teams were called to the scene just after 0500 BST on Saturday following a collision. Police said the pedestrian ran across the carriageway and was hit by a van at about 0500 BST on Saturday.
A section of the road between Darenth and the Littlebrook interchange - junctions 2 to 1A - has been closed on the anti-clockwise carriageway. A section of the road between Darenth and the Littlebrook interchange on the anti-clockwise carriageway was closed for six hours causing long delays.
The Highways Agency said there were four-mile tailbacks and motorists could expect severe delays. The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, but the reason for the referral has not been revealed.
The Dartford Tunnel is still open but is only accessible via junction 1A. The Highways Agency said the road had been re-opened but motorists could expect more delays as a result of the closure.
