Loch boats sink leaving one dead Search called off for loch angler

One man is dead, one is missing, and six people were found alive after two boats sank in Loch Lomond on Saturday. A search for a missing angler has been called off after a fishing boat sank in Loch Lomond on Saturday evening.
About 20 vessels had gathered in nearby Inchmurrin island to mark the end of the angling season, and many were going back to land when the boats sank. Andrew Wood, 45, from Dumbarton, was one of five men on a vessel which sank near Inchmurrin island at 1815 BST.
The coastguard rescued three men from the water, two have severe hypothermia. The body of angler David Miller, 36, from Dumbarton, was found shortly after the boat sank. Three men, aged 39, 50 and 25, were rescued from the water.
A man's body was found and a search is continuing for a 45-year-old. Sailors who had been on the loch on Saturday have said conditions were poor. About 20 vessels had gone to the island to mark the end of the angling season. Many were returning when the boat sank.
An initial search actually located three people on the shore who said their boat had sunk - but rescuers quickly realised they were not the ones who had raised the alarm and that five people were still in the waters of Loch Lomond.
Sailors, who had been on the loch on Saturday, have said conditions were poor.

Emergency services launched a rescue operation after receiving a 999 call at 1815 BST to say a 19ft boat was sinking and five people were in the loch. The three survivors had been in the water for two hours, but were all wearing flotation suits.

Three men - aged 39, 50 and 25 - were found alive near Inchmurrin island. Inspector David Andrew, from Strathclyde Police, said: "Despite every effort by the emergency services, it is with sincere regret that we have had to call off the search for Mr Wood.
They had been in the water for two hours, but were all wearing flotation suits. They were taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. "An extensive search of the area has been ongoing since first light this morning, and unfortunately this has been unsuccessful.
The body of the 36-year-old angler was found at 2025 BST. "Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go to the families of both men."
A land and water search got under way again on Sunday morning.
However, the coastguard said hopes were fading for the missing angler's wellbeing.
Calum Murray, watch manager at Clyde Coastguard, said: "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of the deceased."
