'Tragic accident'
He said there was no-one to blame for the incident.
"It had been a boys day out. We'd gone down the night before and stayed in a hotel and went to watch Everton win - and then we set off for a day out that didn't go as planned.
"It was just an accident - it could have happened to anybody and unfortunately it was our son. There was nobody to blame - it was a tragic accident.
"He was a fabulous boy and loved because of the child he was with time and compassion for everyone - people I've never even met have rung and offered their sympathy."
He added: "We'll have to get through this and we've got a long, long way to go."
