(about 3 hours later)
Ninety firefighters are tackling a blaze in the centre of a North Yorkshire town. A blaze which ravaged a restaurant and damaged flats in a North Yorkshire town has been brought under control.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said 18 fire engines from across the county were at the scene in Harrogate. Ninety firefighters and 18 fire engines were called to tackle the flames at Prezzo Italian restaurant in Harrogate.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of Prezzo Italian restaurant and has spread to the first floor and roof. Thirteen flats were evacuated after the fire spread from the restaurant's kitchen to the first floor and roof.
Thirteen flats managed by property company Places for People have been evacuated, a spokeswoman confirmed. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the incident was now being scaled down, but crews would remain at the scene throughout the night.
There are no reports of casualties. Residents are being warned to keep their windows shut because of smoke. A spokeswoman said: "The fire is under control and [firefighters] are keeping water on the building to prevent any hotspots."
West Yorkshire fire service is providing support and crews from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service are at the site as a precaution. Crews from across the county and West Yorkshire were called to the Albert Street site, where four engines remain.
A spokesman for Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust said no casualties had been admitted to the town's hospital. Four flats were believed to have been involved in the fire and several flats have suffered smoke damage.
Harrogate police have cleared onlookers from the scene. No-one is thought to have been hurt in the incident, though some small pets are unaccounted for.
Albert Street is closed and Station Parade is closed between Robert Street and Cheltenham Crescent. A number of streets in the town centre were closed while firefighters fought to control the blaze.
A fire spokesman said: "Crews are still fighting the fire from outside of the building, using jets and aerial ladder platforms.
"Please be careful if you are driving through Harrogate as the smoke from the fire is affecting visibility."
Residents and businesses are advised to keep their doors and windows closed because of the smoke.
