Lee Smith, a station manager with North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, said: "There was a fire in the ducting area and it travelled through the different nooks and crannies, spaces and voids in that building.
"It's quite an old building, it's had lots of work done over the years and this has meant there's been lots of spaces that enabled the fire to progress."
