Version 0 of 1.

A man has admitted killing his partner by stabbing him with a broken bottle at his home in Rotherham.

Anthony McCall, 55, pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court to the manslaughter of Michael Riches, 59.

Mr Riches died in hospital after he was found injured at his home in Swinburne Place, Herringthorpe, on 6 October.

McCall, of Redscope Crescent, Kimberworth, entered his plea on the second day of his trial for murder. He will be sentenced on 12 May.

A post mortem examination found Mr Riches had died as a result of an injury to his lower arm inflicted by glass from a broken bottle, South Yorkshire Police said.

Mr Riches' family said: "We are all deeply saddened by what's happened to Michael.

"It has been a lot to come to terms with, which we are still trying to do."

Det Con John Morris said Mr Riches was killed in the "most tragic circumstances".

He added: "My thoughts and sympathy go out to his family and friends who I hope will be able to start to move forward with their lives following McCall's guilty plea and his impending sentencing."
