Oldham magistrates remanded him on bail to Manchester Crown Court on 15 April.
The alleged offences took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Mr Kerr is due to appear before Oldham Magistrates Court later. Det Con Richard Mills, from the force's Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: "I want to reassure local residents, and more importantly parents of children currently at St Martin's, that these are historical incidents.
