Obama Meets With Asian Allies on North Korea’s Nuclear Plans
Version 0 of 1. President Obama brought together the sometimes squabbling leaders of Japan and South Korea on Tuesday for a closed-door discussion in advance of his visit to both countries next month. The three leaders met on the sideline of a nuclear security summit meeting in The Hague, emerging from the discussion to declare themselves united in the face of North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and other issues. The fact that the three leaders offered positive comments was significant, given the tensions between Japan and South Korea. The countries’ leaders have been feuding almost since each assumed office, over issues dating back to World War II, including so-called comfort women, the girls and women abducted by the Japanese during the war to work in prostitution camps. |
