Sheffield Wednesday fans staged a pre-match protest against chairman Dave Allen before Saturday's home clash against QPR.

A crowd of about 200 fans gathered, angered at Allen's decision to sack manager Paul Sturrock on Thursday.

They chanted "We want Allen out" and "There's only one Paul Sturrock" near the players' entrance at Hillsborough.

Allen was subjected to verbal abuse as he was ushered into the stadium under heavy escort from security guards.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said nobody had been arrested.

Allen only handed Sturrock a new four-year contract five games ago and now aims to have a new man in place within the next fortnight.

Wednesday academy manager Sean McAuley was placed in charge for Saturday's match.
