A pensioner is set to become one of Scotland's oldest bridegrooms.

Bill Rodgers, 96, is due to marry his long-term girlfriend at his home in Cherrybank, near Perth, on Saturday.

The self-confessed "old romantic" courted 74-year-old Liz Stewart for more than a decade before asking her for her hand.

The couple, who are both widowed, said they enjoy regular holidays in the sun, supporting St Johnstone FC and general companionship.

Mr Rodgers told BBC Scotland he decided to propose after becoming ill.

He said: "I had three life-threatening illnesses, with which she was with me all the time, so I felt I owed her a bit more than just being my bidie-in (live-in partner)."
