Sophie Collombet case: Queensland police seek suspect's extradition
Version 0 of 1. A man arrested on the New South Wales mid-north coast over the murder of a French student in Brisbane will be extradited back to Queensland. Benjamin James Milward, 25, was arrested in Coffs Harbour on Monday afternoon in connection with the death of Sophie Collombet 11 days previously. He is due to appear in Coffs Harbour local court on Tuesday so Queensland police can apply to a magistrate to have Milward brought back to Queensland to be charged. "If the court says yes, then we'll bring him back to Queensland and he'll be questioned here," a police spokesman said. Almost two weeks have passed since Collombet's battered and naked body was found at Kurilpa park, at the edge of Brisbane's busy South Bank precinct. Last week Queensland police named Milward, an itinerant man, as a suspect after CCTV footage showed him to have been in the area on the day of Collombet's murder. Collombet, a 21-year-old Griffith University business student, had caught a bus home from a night class before she was attacked. A vigil in her honour is being held in Brisbane's city centre on Thursday night to mark the two-week anniversary of her death. Collombet's family has been informed of the arrest but her father, Guy Collombet, told News Corp Australia he wanted to see more developments before commenting further. |
