M6 reopens following 'serious' crash at Coventry

The M6 has fully reopened after being closed for almost 18 hours following a crash involving two cars and two lorries near Coventry.

The motorway was closed at 07:45 BST on Tuesday following the accident southbound between junctions 2 and 3.

The northbound carriageway was reopened a short time later but the southbound section remained shut until 02:00 BST.

One lorry driver was taken to hospital with fractures to his wrist and pelvis, the other was unhurt. police said.

Officers said one lorry had overturned and gone down an embankment.

The two women who were in the two cars were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The Highways Agency said emergency repairs to the road had taken place following the "serious" accident which had left diesel and oil on the carriageway.
