Version 0 of 1.

A man arrested on suspicion of the murder of a doorman who was shot in the back of the head almost 19 years ago has been released without charge.

The body of Ian Grant, 24, was found on wasteland near Fulbourn Hospital, Cambridgeshire, in 1995.

Police re-opened their inquiry in November after new forensic evidence described came to light.

A week later, a 49-year-old was arrested in Cambridge. Police said his bail had been cancelled.

Mr Grant was found shortly after midnight on 15 November 1995 on a site close to what is now the Tesco store at Fulbourn.

He had left his flat in nearby Speedwell Close, Cherry Hinton, the previous evening.

'Net closing in'

Police said Mr Grant had developed "a lot of enemies" through his own violence and trouble with other door companies.

His girlfriend's car had been set alight outside their flat two weeks before his murder.

In November, detectives described the new evidence as a "significant breakthrough" and later said the "net was closing in" on those responsible for Mr Grant's death.

They have yet to comment on the latest development.

Two men stood trial for Mr Grant's murder and were acquitted after trial at Norwich Crown Court in the 1990s.

The man released without charge had not previously been arrested in connection with the case, police said.
