A British man arrested in Dubai and allegedly tortured by police into making a false drug confession has been “abandoned” by the Emirati royals he was working for, his family has said.

Hasnain Ali, 32, from London, was arrested after climbing into what he thought  was the car of a friend while on holiday in the Gulf city  last May. The former bodyguard claims he was then tortured by police and held over four days and forced to sign a confession in Arabic for cocaine possession, an offence for which he faces a potential death sentence. A verdict is expected tomorrow.
