Dave Lee Travis charged with assault Dave Lee Travis charged with indecent assault
(35 minutes later)
DJ Dave Lee Travis charged with one count of indecent assault under Operation Yewtree, Scotland Yard says Former Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis has been charged with one count of indecent assault under Operation Yewtree.
More to follow. The 68-year-old is alleged to have assaulted a woman, who was over the age of 16, in January 1995.
The Crown Prosecution Service said last month it had authorised police to charge him with the alleged offence.
The fresh charge comes after Mr Travis was cleared of 12 counts of indecent assault in February. He faces a retrial on two outstanding charges.
'Nightmare continuing'
The jury at Southwark Crown Court had been unable to reach verdicts on the charges of indecent and sexual assault.
They relate to an allegation of indecent assault against a woman in the early 1990s along with an alleged sexual assault on a journalist in 2008.
When the CPS announced on 28 March that Mr Travis would face a further charge, he said: "It's been a bit of a nightmare.
"And the only thing I want to say is this: The nightmare is continuing."
Scotland Yard said Mr Travis, from Buckinghamshire, was due to appear on bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 24 April.
