Former England captain David Beckham has revealed his frustration at being left on the bench by Real Madrid.

After being left out of the England set-up by boss Steve McClaren, Beckham has found his playing time limited this season under Real coach Fabio Capello.

The 31-year-old midfielder told the Mail on Sunday: "I feel sad and frustrated as a footballer because I'm not playing for my country or club.

"Two more years on the bench would be very difficult for me."

Beckham made his first start for Real in five games when he was included for last weekend's game against Getafe.

Despite his lack of action, Beckham is in discussions with Real over a new two-year contract.

Real president Ramon Calderon recently warned off other clubs from pursuing any interest and Capello is said to be keen to want Beckham to stay.

Beckham is determined to fight for his place and, despite his frustrations, has no intention of hanging up his boots yet.

He added: "I am not even thinking about retiring. When my heart and legs give in then that will be the time but that is not the case now."
