The Football League has charged AFC Wimbledon with fielding an ineligible player in their victory over Cheltenham last month.

Jake Nicholson made his debut as a half-time substitute and went on to score as the Dons beat the Robins 4-3 on 22 March. The midfielder, who has featured in another two games since, had joined Neal Ardley's men following his departure from Scottish side Morton in January. The matter will be heard by a football disciplinary commission on 28 April.

Four years ago Hartlepool, then in League One, were deducted three points and handed a suspended £10,000 fine by the Football League for fielding an ineligible player. Gary Liddle featured in a victory over Brighton when the midfielder should have been serving the first game of a two-match ban.
