Football transfer rumours: PSG's Adrien Rabiot to Chelsea? | Football transfer rumours: PSG's Adrien Rabiot to Chelsea? |
(about 4 hours later) | |
Oh to be 18 again. The recklessness of youth. The ripped jeans. The terrible hair. Buying T-shirts off the back of a van outside a gig for under half the price of the official merchandise. Watching the face of the landlord at your local drop when you order your first legal pint several years after first going in there. Yeah, being 18 was pretty good.
Another great thing was EMA – that is the Education Maintenance Allowance – which Big Dave Cameron shut down in England but for the kids of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, still exists. When one turned 18, this went up to £30 a week! God knows how many Greggs sausage rolls you can buy with that. | Another great thing was EMA – that is the Education Maintenance Allowance – which Big Dave Cameron shut down in England but for the kids of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, still exists. But for some teenagers, £30 isn't enough. Namely Paris Saint-Germain's Adrien Rabiot, who earns £5,000 a week but is holding out for a £60,000 a week. A 1,200% rise, the cheeky scamp. The thing is, the young Frenchman is quite good at football and, despite facing competition from Yohan Cabaye, Blaise Matuidi, Marco Verratti and Thiago Motta at the base of PSG's midfield, has still managed nearly 30 appearances this season.
All of which has alerted Chelsea, Saho have loads of good midfielders but, crucially, also have loads of money and are rumoured to be willing to match Rabiot's wage demands. José Mourinho has taken a particular shine to the shaggy-haired youngster and with his contract expiring in 2015, has decided that £8m is enough to prise him from Paris and beat both Juventus and Arsenal to his signature. | All of which has alerted Chelsea, Saho have loads of good midfielders but, crucially, also have loads of money and are rumoured to be willing to match Rabiot's wage demands. To celebrate St George's Day, Everton's Roberto Martínez has decided to double up on some English talent. Southampton's Jack Cork and Manchester United's Nick Powell, on loan at Wigan, seem to fit the bill. Powell is expected to wait until the new permanent manager at Manchester United doesn't pick him before jumping ship, while Cork, who was the subject of a £3m bid from Swansea in January, may come a little easier now that he is about to enter the final year of his contract. | To celebrate St George's Day, Everton's Roberto Martínez has decided to double up on some English talent. Arsène Wenger has been particularly impressed with Sandro's recent tweeting and wants the Brazilian's renowned "banter" to help cheer up a flagging dressing room.
The defensive midfielder could also come in handy the next time Mathieu Flamini is crocked. Sandro's Mr 15%, sniffing an opportunity to live up to his name, has predictably said his Tottenham Hotspur client "came back very well this year and how many teams are revamping their roster for next season? There might be some official interest from clubs, he's a high-level player. Surely he will continue to do a good job no matter which club he is at." | The defensive midfielder could also come in handy the next time Mathieu Flamini is crocked. Elsewhere, Liverpool are looking to sign the speedy Barcelona winger Christian Tello as quickly as possible, while Mike Ashley might be interested in acquiring the David Moyes Chosen One banner – a snip at £150,000 on eBay in his bid to lure the former Manchester United manager to Newcastle, with the intention of swapping the Scot for Alan Pardew in the summer. |
