A member of staff rang 999 after making the discovery at the Hayes Park nursing home in Rowlatts Hill just after 0400 GMT on Wednesday. A member of staff rang 999 after finding two residents dead in a room at the Hayes Park nursing home in Rowlatts Hill just before 0400 GMT on Wednesday.
Detectives have confirmed the two women were residents of the home. Officers have cordoned off part of the area around the home and have sealed off some of the building.
Police have cordoned off part of the building and post-mortem examinations are due to be carried out. Detectives are now waiting for the results of post-mortem tests.
Det Supt Chris Thomas, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a serious incident. There is a large cordon and we are carrying out a detailed examination at the home.
"There is a post-mortem examination due to take place and this will help us to establish exactly what happened.
"I do not want people to worry unnecessarily but personal safety is always important so I urge local people to be vigilant, keep their doors and windows locked and to report anything suspicious to the police."
Neither of the victims have yet been formally identified but police have contacted the families of the women.
