"He will look forward to the publication of the report of that inquiry, which he and his colleagues will carefully consider," added the spokesperson.
The Electoral Commission said it has apologised to Fusilier Rigby's family and is deeply sorry for the offence caused.
The watchdog said the description will be removed from use in future elections but said it was too late for ballot papers to be changed in time for the vote on 22 May.
But Swansea West MP Geraint Davies said the chair of the Electoral Commission should resign for the mistake, adding it was not right for Fusilier Rigby's name to be "sullied" by any political party.
The Labour MP said: "The commission's decision to place Fusilier Rigby's name alongside this racist and Islamophobic party on ballot papers across Wales is simply inexcusable, as is their refusal to do anything about it.
"They have acknowledged that they should have intervened, but simply apologising and holding an inquiry is insufficient when the damage has already been done.
"Given the severity of their error and the commission's refusal to act to remedy it, the chair's position is untenable and she should resign immediately."

The call was echoed by Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas.
In a tweet on Sunday, the Mid and West Wales AM said: "Gross and stomach churning mistake. Chair and officer(s) responsible should go."
