Indie rock band The View will headline Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations, it has been announced.

The Dundee band will help the George Square crowd bring in the New Year with a host of other acts.

Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald and Suspiciously Elvis, the Elvis tribute act, will also perform for an expected crowd of 15,000 people.

Glasgow's Lord Provost, Cllr Robert Winter, said he was delighted with the choice of headliners.

"The line up will certainly ensure the crowd have plenty to sing about as they bring in the New Year," he said.

Kyle Falconer, lead singer of The View, whose album Hats off to the Buskers hit number one on the UK album chart last January, said: "Scottish crowds are the best in the world and we have always had a fantastic time gigging in Glasgow."

The 2007 Hogmanay celebrations in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling had to be cancelled due to the weather.
