Blondie: Hear three tracks from their new album Ghosts of Download | Blondie: Hear three tracks from their new album Ghosts of Download |
(1 day later) | |
Blondie release their first album for three years on 12 May, and all this week we're bringing it to you, three tracks at a time, before we unveil the whole album on Friday.
Today's three tracks are Sugar on the Side, Rave (featuring Miss and A Rose By Any Name. They showcase a Blondie that's not just looking back on past glories.
Sugar on the Side journeys into Latin music, as Debbie Harry, Chris Stein et al are joined by the Colombian collective Systema Solar for a jaunty, summery romp. Rave – featuring Miss Guy of the New York band Toilet Böys – takes the new wave-disco pulse of Atomic for its verses, with the four-four thud of house music behind it, through Clem Burke finds room for some of his distinctive Keith Moonish fills. Beth Ditto joins them for A Rose By Any Name, an electronic ballad that proclaims "If you're a boy or if you're a girl/ I'll love you just the same."
"As a band, we have always taken great pride in constantly reinventing our sound and style," Harry told Vogue UK last year. "I think if you love what you do – and as a band we love to make music – that's why we keep doing what we keep doing."
Come back tomorrow for three more tracks.
• Ghosts of Download is released as part of the two-disc package Blondie 4(0) Ever with Deluxe Redux: Greatest Hits, via Noble ID/ESMG, on 12 May. |
