Version 0 of 1.

David Meyler is free to play for Hull City in the FA Cup final after the Football Association judged it could not take retrospective action against the Republic of Ireland midfielder following his alleged stamp on Adnan Januzaj.

Television replays suggested the apparent foul, which took place during Hull's 3-1 defeat at Manchester United on Tuesday night, was worthy of a red card but Meyler escaped unpunished.

Had the referee, Craig Pawson, not seen the incident the FA could have reviewed it retrospectively but Pawson, in his report submitted to the ruling body on Wednesday, said he was looking directly at Meyler as the player made the challenge. As he had a clear, unobstructed, view – albeit without the benefit of television replays from assorted angles – no sanctions can be imposed.
