An arson attack caused damage worth an estimated £7m when fire swept through a Leeds industrial estate, police said.

The blaze, on Easter Monday, destroyed part of the Tradpak premises, in Armley Road, and spread to neighbouring Hazel Products.

At its height more than 100 firefighters were at the scene.

Det Insp Mark Swift, of West Yorkshire Police, said the site's destruction had made undertaking a forensic investigation difficult.

"We worked closely with specialist fire investigators and established that the fire had been started deliberately", he explained.

In the early hours of the bank holiday, police sealed off nearby roads and evacuated a nightclub over concerns for the safety of revellers inside.

Hundreds of fish were also killed when water in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal was polluted because of the blaze.

The force has renewed its appeal for witnesses or anyone with information about the blaze, to come forward.
