Stephen made headlines for raising over £3million for The Teenage Cancer Trust charity, after he posted an emotional farewell message to the followers of his Stephen’s Story Facebook page. He had initially set out to raise just £10,000.
Soon, celebrities including Benedict Cumberbatch and Jason Mannford had taken to social media and encouraged people to donate to the cause.
In April, Stephen had posted a heartbreaking “final thumbs up” picture on Facebook as he feared his life was coming to an end.
But over the next seven days, his health appeared to have taken a turn for the better, and he was briefly allowed to return to his home in Burntwood, Staffordshire.
He was first diagnosed with bowel cancer aged 15, and was told in December 2012 that his condition was incurable.
Tributes for the teenager have been flooding in on Twitter, with many paying homage to his “spirit” and “bravery”.
