Medical officials say Israeli troops have shot dead two Palestinian teens in a West Bank clash that erupted after Palestinians marked the anniversary of their uprooting in the war over Israel's 1948 creation.

Officials at Ramallah hospital said a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were shot in the upper body with live fire. Dr Samir Saliba, head of the hospital's emergency department, confirmed both deaths.

Saliba said three other Palestinians were wounded, one seriously, when Israeli troops fired to disperse stone throwers near an Israeli military checkpoint.

A police spokesman said border police broke up "disturbances" but did not use live fire.

Palestinians marched in the West Bank and Gaza earlier on Thursday to commemorate the Nakba, the term Palestinians use to describe their defeat and displacement in the war.
