Leeds negotiate Wise appointment Leeds talks with Wise put on hold
(about 3 hours later)
Leeds have confirmed they have held talks with Swindon boss Dennis Wise and his assistant Gus Poyet over the vacant manager's post at Elland Road. Swindon have withdrawn permission for Dennis Wise to hold talks with Leeds over their vacant managerial post.
Swindon had given permission for the duo to talk to Leeds, who said in a statement: "The clubs are discussing terms of their release." The Robins earlier allowed Wise and assistant Gus Poyet to talk to Leeds.
Leeds have been without a boss since sacking Kevin Blackwell in September. But a Swindon statement said: "The club made clear they would only release Dennis and Gus from their contracts if suitable compensation was paid.
Clauses in the pair's contracts allow them to speak to Premiership or Championship clubs that are interested. "Regrettably, it has proven impossible to agree compensation. The club has withdrawn permission for Leeds to talk with or seek to appoint Wise or Poyet."
It states that if they move, Swindon will receive the value of one year's salary of both men in compensation. Swindon say talks between the two clubs are "ongoing" but the Robins also revealed they have offered Wise and Poyet improved terms if they stay at the County Ground.
"Dennis and Gus remain contracted until the end of June 2009 and are continuing to fulfil their duties," the statement read.
"Both they and the club are determined to ensure that the progress achieved to date continues.
"Both individuals have been offered significantly improved terms at the club and it is hoped they will remain at Swindon for the forseeable future."
