Man due in court on rape charges Man, 22, denies town rape charge
(about 6 hours later)
A 22-year-old man is due to appear in court in County Tyrone to face charges of rape and causing grievous bodily harm. A man has denied charges of attacking and raping a woman when he appeared at a County Tyrone Court.
The charges relate to a serious sexual attack on a woman at Derry Road, Strabane, on Monday. Dennis Hugh McDermott, 22, from Newtown Place, Strabane, was charged with rape and grievous bodily harm after an incident near the Derry Road on Monday.
She was attacked and raped at about 0100 BST, shortly after she had left a nightclub in the town. His solicitor told Omagh court that while the young woman claimed she had been raped in an alleyway, the accused said she consented to sex in his home.
The man is due to appear before Omagh Magistrates Court later. Mr McDermott was remanded in custody until 23 November.
