George Osborne's cat Freya 'chauffeur-driven' home after being found by homelessness worker
Version 0 of 1. The Chancellor George Osborne's cat has been returned safely to Downing Street after being discovered by a homelessness outreach worker and then collected by No10 officials who "chauffeured" her back home. Freya was found roaming the streets of Vauxhall, in south London, by a group of women who were heading home after going for dinner. Kate Jones, one of the women in the group, decided to take the cat back to her houseboat and rang the number on its collar, only to be informed the cat belonged to the Chancellor and had travelled at least 1.5 miles south of the river. After arranging for a Downing Street official to collect Freya the next day, Ms Jones posted a picture of the cat with a note to remind Mr Osborne that while the feline had been given shelter for the night in this instance, most homeless people are not so fortunate. The note read: "Found – on the streets of Vauxhall. Not everyone is as lucky as Freya. George please stop cutting homeless services." Chancellor George Osborne's cat which has been returned to Downing Street after turning up frightened and lost in Vauxhall, after Homelessness outreach worker Kate Jones found Freya far from home and identified the wandering feline from a tag on her collar Ms Jones, 31, who works with Thames Reach's London Street Rescue, said she had lots of experience helping the homeless in London - but that it was the first time she had helped a cat find shelter. “I did find it slightly ironic," she told The Telegraph, "that I had been up at 5am trying to help 24 people who had been sleeping rough in Newham and we couldn’t find anywhere to send them, then this cat gets chauffeur driven home. "I'm not so used to working with homeless cats but when we saw Freya we realised how distressed she was, we did the only right thing possible and helped her get off the streets too. "Freya is a gorgeous cat and, just like the people we work with, deserved some help in getting home." Freya, who moved to Downing Street with the Osborne family in 2010, has reportedly gone missing before after disappearing from the family's Notting Hill home in 2009. |
