Version 0 of 1.

City of Heavenly Fire is the sixth and last instalment in Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series, and I can assure readers will not be left disappointed. Rather the oppositeā€¦

CoHF picks up after the events of the fifth book in the series, City of Lost Souls. While Sebastian Morgenstern is gaining power against the Shadowhunters, Clary and her friends do everything they can to stop him destroying their world in the dramatic climax to the series.

I don't know what else to say other than the book is a perfect ending to the series. If you have read Cassandra's other books, you'll know what a skilled storyteller she is and she doesn't let down with this book. As usual she manages to weave a story that has you laughing on one page and in floods of tears the next. Or, sometimes, at the same time.

She masterfully manages to link everything together fluidly, especially the characters' ancestry. All questions and theories that have plagued you for months are answered and justified, along with extra surprises and sweet moments. Also, the six people that were foretold to be killed off meet their ends.

Cassandra manages to end this series but at the same time, carry on her prequel series into it, making you feel emotional to greet them again. Cassandra's series isn't really ending, her characters are always cropping up and getting references in other ones, which is good as you feel so much potential and know the door is never firmly shut on your favourite characters stories.

She introduces the characters (if a little younger) who will be the main focus of her next series (The Dark Artifices) allowing you to get to know them and fall in love with them as well as getting a hint about what the series will be about so again the Shadowhunter world doesn't feel closed off after finishing and you're left counting down the days until the next book is out before you've even closed this one.

City of Heavenly Fire is just one of those books that you hold in your heart long after finishing. Overall, I'd award City of Heavenly Fire 5 out of 5 stars. A fitting ending.
