Ex-councillor Philip Leivers guilty of child indecency

An ex-Lincolnshire councillor has been found guilty of three historical counts of indecency with a child.

Philip Leivers, 75, of Sea Bank Road, Skegness, stepped down from East Lindsey District Council shortly after the allegations were made in 2012.

The offences, which Leivers denied, took place when he managed a concert venue between 1975 and 1981 in London.

At Snaresbrook Crown Court, he was cleared of seven counts of rape and four counts of indecent assault.

He was also cleared of another count indecency with a child.

Sitting on Friday, the jury was unable to reach verdicts on three further counts of indecent assault and one indecency with a child.

Leivers was granted bail and is due back in court on 7 July for sentencing.
