Version 0 of 1.

Staff at a reptile centre in Brighton found a 5ft long boa constrictor abandoned on their doorstep.

The snake, which is believed to be between four and five years old, was left inside an unmarked plastic box covered in towels and old bedding.

A note inside the box said the reptile was male, but gave no indication about why its owner had left it there.

The snake is now being looked after at the RSPCA Reptile Centre.

Centre manager Keith Simpson-Wells found the snake when he arrived at work.

He said the centre does provide a home for unwanted exotic animals, but thought it was "a bit strange" to find a box propped up against the wall so he opened it with care.

The snake, which has not been given a name, is thought to be in a good condition.

Once a vet has given it the all clear, the centre will try to find it a new owner.
