Version 0 of 1.

A teenage student has appeared in court charged in connection with two bomb scares at Newcastle University.

Buildings near the INTO language school were evacuated twice last week and a controlled explosion carried out on a recovered substance.

Vladimir Vladmirovich Aust, 18, of Haymarket Lane, Newcastle, was accused of making an explosive substance.

He is also accused of carrying two knives when he was arrested near the Russian embassy in London.

At the hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court, the student spoke only to confirm his name and address with the aid of an interpreter.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on 23 June.

A second 18-year-old Russian student, who was also arrested last week in connection with the incidents, remains on police bail pending further inquiries.
