There are two Bowe Bergdahl blockbusters in the works

Version 0 of 1. 2014 is shaping up to be the year of the ambiguous political anti-hero. Happy endings are out and headlines are in, with two big screen versions of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s story just announced. They’ll be joining the already-in-the-works dueling Edward Snowden projects. Deadline.com, the hotline on Hollywood, reported Monday that director Kathryn Bigelow and producer Mark Boal, who brought us previous feel-good flicks “The Hurt Locker” and “Zero Dark Thirty,” are developing a script about Bergdahl’s controversial extraction after spending five years as a Taliban captive in Afghanistan. Meanwhile Fox Searchlight has acquired the rights to the late Michael Hastings’s 2012 Rolling Stone article about Bergdahl, “America’s Last Prisoner of War.” Director Todd Field will head the project, which is the second adaption based on Hastings’s reporting. His book, “The Operators,” which is about U.S. military operations in Afghanistan, will be a film of the same name starring Brad Pitt as Gen. Stanley McChrystal.
