Syria: Bomb Kills More Than 30 Near a Central City Syria: Bomb Kills More Than 30 Near a Central City
(about 1 hour later)
A powerful truck bomb exploded on Friday in a government-held village in central Syria, killing more than 30 civilians and wounding dozens more, the state news agency SANA and opposition activists said. The bomb exploded in the village of Horrah, near Hama. The police said the truck was loaded with about three tons of explosives, and the blast destroyed “a large number of houses and buildings in the village,” the news agency reported. The Islamic Front, an insurgent coalition that includes several rebel groups in Syria, claimed responsibility for the attack in a video posted online. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a group in Britain that monitors the conflict through a network of activists in Syria, said that at least 37 people were killed and more than 40 others were wounded in the bombing.
