Taxi driver attacked in carjacking in Cambuslang

A taxi driver has been seriously hurt in an attack by a passenger who made off in the car.

The 44-year-old driver was assaulted in Eastfield Avenue in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, at about 19:50 on Friday.

He got out of the car and the suspect drove off before the vehicle was found abandoned in Morar Drive. A 68-year-old woman was later attacked in Dukes Road.

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he has been detained, in a stable condition.

Both the driver, who suffered an injury to his neck, and the woman, who was injured in the chest, are being treated at Hairmyres Hospital where their condition was described as serious but stable.

Officers said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
