A fire crew has come under attack from youths throwing rocks as they tried to extinguish a blaze in some trees in Cardiff.

The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service crew from Roath was called to Chesterton Road in Llanrumney shortly after 13:40 BST.

Firefighters said the group of 13 to 15-year-old youths were throwing rocks while hiding in some bushes.

No-one was injured but the fire engine was slightly damaged.

Earlier this year the fire service said its firefighters had been punched, had bottles thrown at them and been confronted by gangs of youths during callouts.

It said that its crews had also been kicked, had bricks thrown at them and been verbally abused during callouts.

There were fourteen incidents in all between 2012 and 2013.
