Version 0 of 1.

Jozy Altidore will miss the USA's decisive World Cup Group G game against Germany in Recife on Thursday, thanks to the hamstring strain he picked up in the opening win over Ghana.

Coach Jürgen Klinsmann said on Tuesday “we will have a good chance to have him back again” if the USA reach the round of 16. To be certain of doing so, they must win or draw against Klinsmann's former team.

Altidore missed Sunday's 2-2 draw with Portugal, in which a last-second goal from Silvestre Varela denied the USA a victory that would have put them through. Altidore pulled up injured in the first half of the 2-1 win over Ghana.

After the Portugal game, Klinsmann said his team would not play for a draw against Germany: ““We have that fighting spirit, and we give everything in every game.

“We will go to Recife and we will give everything to beat Germany. That is our goal.”

Against Ghana, Altidore was replaced up front by Aron Jóhannsson of AZ. Against Portugal, Klinsmann picked captain Clint Dempsey alone up front.
