Officials say an Ohio man has died as he hiked out of the Grand Canyon after a commercial river trip, according to the Associated Press. The National Park Service said that attempts to resuscitate the 62-year-old man weren’t successful Sunday morning.

Bystanders started CPR on the man on the popular Bright Angel Trail. Park Service personnel responded and an agency helicopter was diverted to the area to aid the efforts. Authorities say the man’s name is not being released until his family is notified.

The death comes amid the search for an Arizona man who reportedly fell from a ledge Friday into the Colorado River during a rafting trip in Grand Canyon National Park. The Park Service says teams searched by air and boat over the weekend but hadn’t found 68-year-old Victor Tseng of Phoenix.

The number of deaths at the Grand Canyon this year already is above the annual average of 12. Eighteen people have died at the canyon since Jan. 1, according to authorities, including three on river trips, two who fell over the rim, one in a car accident and several others from natural causes or medical distress. The number includes visitors and residents of Grand Canyon Village.

Some 4.5 million people visit the Grand Canyon each year.
