The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has released a report on the minimum income standard in the UK. It asks members of the public what basic goods and services are necessary to live comfortably, and then works out what the average person needs to earn to achieve this.

From the findings it has emerged that working adults without children no longer feel that a landline is a necessity. It seems that the days of endless squabbles over the family phone are a thing of the past, with most people preferring to use a mobile phone or other technology to keep in touch with friends and family.

How do you contact loved ones? Do you live in a rural area with shoddy mobile signal so a landline is still vital? Do you prefer to email friends and colleagues and avoid talking all together? Or do you keep in touch with people through video calls like Skype so you can see and engage with the other person more completely?

Tell us if you think the landline is dead, and let us know how you prefer to communicate.
