CAIRO — Two police officers were killed Monday in Cairo while trying to defuse explosive devices planted outside Egypt’s presidential palace, the Interior Ministry said.

The explosions appeared to be part of a long-running campaign of attacks by Islamist militants against the security services that began after the military ousted President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood last July. Monday was the first anniversary of mass protests against Mr. Morsi that preceded the military takeover led by Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, a former general who was elected president in a lopsided vote last month.

The explosions on Monday were the second major attack in the capital since Mr. Sisi took power. Video of one of the explosions on Monday showed a bomb technician, apparently wearing no protective gear, trying to disarm one of the devices when it exploded. At least 13 people were wounded, the authorities said.
