Murder arrest after body found on pavement in Sandown | |

A 50-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered in a street on the Isle of Wight. | |
The victim is thought to be a 44-year-old local man. He was found lying on the pavement in North Street in Sandown at about 23:00 BST on Friday. | |
Despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. | |
Hampshire police said the man's death was being treated as "unexplained" and post-mortem tests were being done. | |
The road remains cordoned off at its junction with Cross Street while a forensic investigation is carried out. | |
Det Ch Insp Nick Heelan said: "We are still in the very early stages of our investigation and are keeping an open mind about what has happened. | |
"We've already had a good response from members of the public who were in the Cross Street area last night and I would like to thank them for their assistance. | |
"I'd also like to thank people for their patience while the roads are closed." | |
The arrested man, who is from Sandown, remains in custody. |
