Presidential love letters: share your own steamy correspondences
http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jul/08/warren-harding-love-letters-share-yours Version 0 of 1. "Oh, Carrie! I want the solace you only can give...Wouldn’t you like to get sopping wet out on Superior — not the lake — for the joy of fevered fondling and melting kisses?"– Former US President Warren G Harding to his mistress, Carrie Fulton Phillips, on 15 September, 1913 Warren G Harding is widely considered one of America's worst presidents – and, now that the 50-year seal on his love letters to mistress Carrie Fulton Phillips is expiring, modern readers have access to more of the man than he ever intended. From steamy recollections of their assignation in Montreal to graphic references to masturbation, Harding's letters to his long-time lover are a peek behind the Victorian curtains and between the dirty sheets. But Harding is far from the only person to have used words in service of seduction – and we don't believe the advent of the sext has meant the end of longer-form smutty correspondence between lovers kept apart by geography or circumstance (or both). Plus, steamy letters are almost as seductive to outside readers as the original recipient, because they're not supposed to be for our eyes. Did you survive a long distance relationship with spicy emails? Have you received love letters from a secret admirer? Were your grandparents' war correspondences surprisingly ... intimate? Share your stories and correspondences with us – we won't print your name (or anybody else's). |
