Police make 20 arrests after street brawl in Wishaw

A child aged 12 was among 20 people arrested by police following a street brawl in North Lanarkshire.

Officers were called to reports of a major disturbance on Gateside Road, in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw, at about 21:15 on Monday.

It is understood the incident took place following an earlier funeral.

Police confirmed that 20 people, aged between 12 and 45 years old had been detained. It is believed that more arrests are expected to be made.

Some of those detained appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Police inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the brawl are ongoing and officers have asked for anyone with information to contact them.
