Israel-Palestine crisis: ‘We just want it to end… We don’t deserve to live like this’ Israel-Gaza crisis: ‘We just want it to end… We don’t deserve to live like this’

We can’t really go to sleep any more. The night before a rocket landed on the roof of a nearby house without any explosive. This is a warning from the Israelis that they will bomb the house. When we came back in the morning, there was no damage. Perhaps the Israelis made a mistake. (On Tuesday in Khan Yunis, eight members of the Kaware family were killed after they returned home after a warning rocket.) This is why I can’t sleep because I need to hear what is going on around us. We might need to evacuate at any moment and if I am sleeping I might not hear the neighbours. When we came back in the morning, there was no damage. Perhaps the Israelis made a mistake. It is much harder for my younger brothers and sisters. My 12-year-old sister stares at the news although we try and stop her. She is now old enough to know what is going on and she is petrified. Every time she hears a loud noise she panics. We have electricity for about eight hours as day.  When there is no electricity it feels as if we are cut off from the outside world. We have water today but we had none yesterday. But there have been no deliveries of drinking water for days because the delivery drivers are too scared to drive. It is much harder for my younger brothers and sisters. It is dangerous to go to the shops. The streets are deserted and either me or my father have to remain at home in case we need to get out of the house. In the last war, we could at least eat together but as it is Ramadan we cannot do that. We sit in a room together, we talk, read, check the internet and the children play.In the last war, we could at least eat together but as it is Ramadan we cannot do that. Ramadan is a time of joy and celebration. We normally visit relatives and neighbours but now we can’t. We try to break the fast properly but often there is no electricity so it is more difficult. At the moment it is very hot and it’s difficult to do anything.Ramadan is a time of joy and celebration. We normally visit relatives and neighbours but now we can’t. No one is going to work. I work in Gaza City which is 20 minutes’ drive away but they are bombing cars so we are told to stay at home. We all just want it to end. I hear there are already 73 dead and some of them are my friends. No one is going to work. I work in Gaza City which is 20 minutes’ drive away but they are bombing cars so we are told to stay at home. Even before this, the economic situation was getting bad. A ceasefire would help things get better. We are humans and we don’t deserve to live like this.Even before this, the economic situation was getting bad. A ceasefire would help things get better.
