A 20-year-old man has been charged with a terrorism offence, police said. A 20-year-old man from Manchester has appeared in court accused a terrorism offence.
Abdul Rahman Benhammedi, of Springbridge Road, Manchester, is charged with possession of an article for a purpose connected with terrorism, Greater Manchester police said. He will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court later. Westminster Magistrates' Court heard the charge relates to a USB memory stick containing sniper training manuals.
An investigation was launched by the North West Counter Terrorism Unit (NWCTU) after a man was stopped at Manchester Airport, a spokesman said. Mr Benhammedi was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on July 31.
The court heard Mr Benhammedi holds dual British and Libyan nationality and was stopped at Manchester Airport on July 4 as he returned from Libya.
