(about 1 month later) | |
Over at the Guardian Music Tumblr we're working hard (AKA surfing the web) to bring you all the best in new tracks, album streams, videos, gifs and music news. Here is a round up of the best things we've stumbled upon this week. Leave tips and comments in the thread below, and tell us what you've enjoyed this week.
Best new video – All the Rage Back Home by Interpol | Best new video – All the Rage Back Home by Interpol |
Interpol have finally premiered the video for All the Rage Back Home, a fixture of their live set for a while now, taken from the much-anticipated forthcoming album El Pintor. The song's a lighter, full-throttle pop song (as light as Interpol get, anyhow), featuring a big stadium chorus. | Interpol have finally premiered the video for All the Rage Back Home, a fixture of their live set for a while now, taken from the much-anticipated forthcoming album El Pintor. The video, however, is shot in moody black-and-white and intersects shots of the band performing in a studio, and a surfer atop rolling waves. A bit like that famous Guinness advert, but without the horses and Leftfield. El Pintor will be the first full-length release from the band in four years, and was funded on Pledge Music. | The video, however, is shot in moody black-and-white and intersects shots of the band performing in a studio, and a surfer atop rolling waves. Chris Martin and Cat Power duet on Wish I Was Here soundtrack | Chris Martin and Cat Power duet on Wish I Was Here soundtrack |
Coldplay's Chris Martin and Cat Power's Chan Marshall just released a duet of them singing the title song for Zach Braff's feature, Wish I Was Here. It's a melancholy affair with lots of sober piano, which I guess is what you'd expect from these two. Braff has pulled in a whole host of names to contribute to the soundtrack, including Paul Simon, The Shins (see below), Bon Iver and, er, Gary Jules. | Coldplay's Chris Martin and Cat Power's Chan Marshall just released a duet of them singing the title song for Zach Braff's feature, Wish I Was Here. Azealia Banks breaks from record label, still no album | Azealia Banks breaks from record label, still no album |
I'm gonna have a fresh start. I'm so excited!!!! | I'm gonna have a fresh start. I'm so excited!!!! |
We have no idea whether Azealia's "fresh start" will entail putting out an actual record, something she has failed to do since she burst onto the scene with 212 over two years ago. But time will tell. | We have no idea whether Azealia's "fresh start" will entail putting out an actual record, something she has failed to do since she burst onto the scene with 212 over two years ago. The Vines are BACK with new single Metal Zone | The Vines are BACK with new single Metal Zone |
The Australian noughties garage rock band have returned with this quick-hit, psychedelic, heavy-panting single full of screaming, headbangin’ drums and shredding, which sounds a bit like The Monks. Their forthcoming album, Wicked Nature, is being funded via Pledge Music.
Paris Hilton is back too | Paris Hilton is back too |
Paris Hilton, club-hopping heiress and one time pop star, is back. In case you don't remember, the lead single from Paris' eponymous debut album was called Stars Are Blind, and it was a truly forgettable slice of cod-reggae. This time P-Hiltz is putting out an EDM-influenced track, which sounds a little like someone put it together on an iPhone app. It's not awful – but it is a bit like the serviceable first single someone who came third on The X Factor would put out.
Damon Albarn talks about his passion for tech... | Damon Albarn talks about his passion for tech... |
...in this video for The Creative Class, a series which gets a bunch of creative people in front of the camera to talk about their 'process'.
New Blood Orange and Skepta – High Street | New Blood Orange and Skepta – High Street |
Dev Hynes has dropped this single featuring British rapper Skepta. We're very appreciative of a rap that includes references to The Crystal Maze, Pinot Grigio and playing Playstation.
Bye! | Bye! |
