Less than three minutes into the contest, Dutch forward Arjen Robben drew a penalty on Brazil’s Thiago Silva just inside the box. The yellow card led to a penalty kick for Robin van Persie, who blasted a left-footed shot into to the top right corner of the net, and just like that, Brazil’s fans were once again deflated. The goal seemed to invigorate the Netherlands, whose coach, Louis Van Gaal, expressed his disdain for the third-place game following his team’s semifinal loss to Argentina. Van Persie means business. It’s safe to say that’s not exactly the way Brazil had hoped its turn as World Cup host would go down in history. Brazil not off to a good start.
