Fears over schools overhaul plan
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/7112971.stm Version 0 of 1. A plan to revamp the school system in Fermanagh has caused division even before it goes out to consultation. The Western Education Board and schools came up with the plan which would have an impact on six schools; two grammar, two secondary and two special schools. The radical changes include the creation of a post primary school for 1,600 children in Enniskillen. A college for four to 14-year-olds is suggested for Lisnaskea which would close primaries and a high school. The plans are to be put out to consultation. However, a girls' grammar school said it had concerns about the timing and timescale of the proposals, given the current unanswered questions about the future of academic selection. The Catholic sector has not been involved in drawing up the proposals. |
